Hey plant people. Quick, exciting news:
Planthead is officially on Google Play. π
It's real. It's live. It's installable in one tap. No more "wait, how do I add this to my home screen again?" energy.
What actually changed
Until now, Planthead was a really nice web app that you could sort of pin to your home screen if you knew where to look in the browser menu. Which is fine. But also kind of like giving someone a lovely candle and then handing them a matchbook with the instructions on the back.
Now, on Android, it's just⦠an app.
- One tap from the Play Store.
- Sits on your home screen next to all your other apps.
- Opens like an app, feels like an app, behaves like an app.
- Updates itself in the background, so you never have to think about it.
That's the whole thing. Nothing wild. Just a lower-friction way to keep Planthead within thumb's reach when you're standing in front of a plant going "β¦what are you and why do you look like that today?"
A quick reminder of what Planthead actually is
If you're new here, hi! π Here's the short version.
Planthead is a cozy little houseplant app for people who have somehow ended up with more plants than they meant to. It's the plant care app we wanted to exist, so we built it.
A few of the things it does:
- Plant identification. Snap a photo, let the AI take a guess at what you're looking at. Great for that mystery plant your coworker gave you six months ago that you've just been calling "the green one."
- Your plant collection, in one place. A tidy shelf of everything you own, with photos, notes, and the little details you'll definitely forget otherwise (where you got it, when you repotted it, that one time it almost died).
- Growth logs over time. Watch your plants slowly, quietly become monsters. Rebrowse old photos and feel weirdly emotional about how small they used to be.
- A plant community. Follow other plant people, share your wins, commiserate over the losses, and hang out with folks who understand why you just spent 20 minutes staring at a new leaf.
- Badges that actually unlock things. Not badges for the sake of badges. The kind that give you a small, cozy nudge to keep going.
No hustle. No streaks yelling at you. No "you've neglected your plants" push notifications designed to guilt-trip you into opening the app. Just a warm little corner of the internet for you and your plants.
Hey iPhone folks β you're not forgotten
If you're on iOS: Planthead works beautifully in Safari, and it can absolutely live on your home screen too. Here's how:
- Open planthead.app in Safari.
- Tap the Share button.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
That's it. It'll sit on your home screen with your other apps, open in full-screen, and behave like a native app. Same Planthead, same cozy vibe, just a slightly different doorway in.
(A proper iOS App Store version is on the list. We're getting there.)
Come hang out
